Life House will hold its second annual Hors D’Oeuvres that Open Doors event at the New Scenic Café on Tuesday, March 6, at 6 p.m.

Hors D’Oeuvres that Open Doors is a special event that raises awareness and funds for the vital services Life House provides for homeless and at-risk youth in the Duluth community.

“On any given night, there are anywhere between 60-100 youth that are homeless and on the streets of our community,” said Kim Crawford, Executive Director of Life House. “Many of our kids don’t have a place to sleep or know where their next meal is coming from. They truly don’t have anywhere else to go. Life House is the one place they can turn to for help and a chance for a brighter future.”

Life House provides immediate access to emergency needs such as food, shelter, basic health care, life skills development, and “one-on-one” support services in safe housing, education, employment, and positive health.

“By joining us for this event, attendees will have a direct impact on the lives of our local youth,” said Crawford. “The bitter realization is that while we’re enjoying fine food in a nice warm restaurant, there are kids on the streets in a state of crisis. With the equivalent of what most of us spend on coffee or eating out during the week, we can effect real change in the life of a child – a chance to get a roof over their head, a chance to graduate from high school, a chance to have a better life.”

Tickets to attend Hors D’Oeuvres that Open Doors are $100 per person with all proceeds going to support Life House programs. Attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres prepared by New Scenic Café Chef Scott Graden, in addition to sampling a variety of wines and beers. Each attendee will also receive an elegant gift bag.
