Postcard from the Duluth Incline Railway in 1914
This postcard was mailed 110 years ago today — July 22, 1914. It shows Duluth’s Incline Railway, which operated from 1891 to 1939. The tram system carried passengers from a housing development at the top of the hillside into the downtown along Seventh Avenue West.
The card was sent to Miss Florence Millerburg of White Rock, South Dakota, by someone with the initials H. M. The message reads:
Staying at M.A. for two days. Nell was up here for supper and spent the evening. Went up the incline and out to the end of West Duluth and out to Minnesota Point yesterday. Expect to go to Fond du Lac and the park today.
