Sorry to reveal the secrets, cando. I live in Bozeman now because I couldn't stand the Midwest and it's lack of mountains anymore. I have a map of my favorite Duluth powder spots that I'd be willing to share with anyone that proves they're worthy of that info.

I've always wanted to organize a top-secret expedition up the river and into the Huron Mountains. That's where the Midwest mountain action is, but they're supposedly impenetrable. Owned by the Ford family at some point (maybe still are?) and now they're owned by cattle farmers from Hawaii. My Dad would tell stories of when he was a lumberjack in the UP in the summers while he was in college. He said the whole area was gated and they actually had guards with guns. He and his buddies would show up with their lumberjack gear, saying they'd been hired to clear trees to try to get in, but they were chased off the property every time. My brother and his buddies have tried to break in too, all to no avail. I find it fascinating. They're the highest mountains in the Midwest.
Mount Baldy is fun to hike though. Great view once you're up there and great powder on the way done.
Oh dear, I miss Michigan. Minneapolis has got nothing on the adventures I used to have in the good old UP.

Oh wait....don't go there. It sucks. They don't even have a Best Buy. Yeah.

has anybody out there in pdd land ever made it into the fortress known as the huron mountains? I'm so curious.

I'd like to hear more about the huron mountains. I love stories like that. Reminds me of a moderately related story/urban legend of top secret security at the old US steel plant in Gary that was supposedly used as a proving or training ground for navy seal teams in the 80s. I don't even care if it is true, the conspiracy sounds so awesome I tell everyone it really happened

The wizard Todd Gremmels wrote that Lutsen "is the only real skiing in the midwest." I have to agree with him. I like a couple of the hills in the UP, but Lutsen is the only "real" ski area in the Midwest.

I still remember (many years ago) letting too much air get under the Atomic 225s that Todd Gremmels had tuned for me and landing on my back at the bottom of Moose Mountain. Ever since then, I have considered Moose to be the closest thing to a mountain that you are going find anywhere in the Midwest.

I don't have the numbers here, but I am pretty sure Lutsen has more vertical feet than any other area in the Midwest. They also have some amazing views of Lake Superior.

Remember those days of speed and drunken frenzi with the Canadian Air Force. Screaming down the entire length of Moose Mountain in under sixty secounds DCA.

Those were the days and for one short moment I was the fastest!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow!!!

You havent lived untill you have had a pair of 225s squirming beneath you!!!!!

IF THERE A SQUIRMING YOUR A BURNING!!!

To turn is to admit defeat!@&!@#

I was mistaken, my 225s were Dynamics. I got one good run out of them. I gave the one I didn't bend to John N.

Todd, I think I remember a picture of you practicing your tuck on a top of a car going about 100mph. I take it you still hold the speed record.

As far as I know.

Thanks for remembering

O by the way John "Insane" N. is on the injured reserve, so give him a thought if you get a chance.
John messed up his shoulder this winter but still is the fastest one legged gimp in the midwest. 76mph on one leg thats impressive!!!
