Searching for Oreck

My name is Steve Oreck and I am the great grandson of Louis Oreck. I am seeking information and items from my great grandfather’s store. Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Garon.us has some very good images and history about the store.

Louis Oreck dealt in "curios." I don't think he was connected to Oreck's apparel/department store, even though he was doing business in Duluth when that store opened.

Oreck's apparel/department store was in business for 73 years, spanning 1909 to 1982.

Ooops, yes, you are totally correct Paul! That other link is very good, and read the comments in this one, too.

I was intrigued to find the ads for Louis Oreck's store: a Jewish businessman selling Navajo rugs in an area populated by Ojibwe people. Always wondered exactly how that came to be.

Paul and Gina, thank you very much for the info. Even though Louis' store wasn't connected to the other Oreck stores we were all related having come from Russia by way of Ellis Island and the name was changed from Oreckovsky to Oreck for business reasons. I love that picture of the 3 stores together. I believe one of them may have been Marvin Oreck and the other Joeseph. Do you know if there are any antique stores with any print on items? Like a jewelry box or hat box? I'm desperately seeking vintage items marked with the family name. Hoping to gift at Christmas time to some remaining family. My phone number is 417-569-9675 and my direct email is [email protected]. If you happen to know any area dealers who may be able to help please pass along.

Take care and God bless,
Steve
