Wednesday Happenings at Hartley

Today, September 15, at Hartley Nature Center:

5-7 p.m. Staff-led Mushroom and Plant Walk- join staff as we stroll through Hartley Park to see what’s growing.

7 p.m. AIS meet and greet – an introduction to the aquatic invasive species found in our area presented by Marte Thabes Kitson, Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Specialist and National Park Service Liaison for Minnesota Sea Grant.

I was talking to a co-worker this morning and discussed the recent pop up of mushrooms. Not only mushrooms but weird looking ones.

There's no shortage of weird mushrooms in Minnesota this year, as this video attests:

You've got a couple types of waxy caps in there.. the bright yellow ones are a variant of the Amanita muscaria (we also get them in orange)...those little ones that look like joints sticking out of the ground are a type of coral mushroom... the one at 45 sec. that looks like a brown bullseye is a Tiger's Eye... a bunch of indistinguishable LBM (little brown mushrooms), a peziza or two--those are the cup like ones... those orange ones with the white dusting that looks like sugar--that's a lobster (yum!)... the little white coral is a crown-tipped coral...
