Once upon a time I would not have guessed that I’d ever witness somebody stealing rhubarb, but yeah, that’s what this guy did behind our neighbors’ garage this afternoon.
This seems like it should be worth serious Duluth points.
Should I lock the doors and hide in the basement? Nothing will ever replace that rhubarb except ... the rhubarb itself, by like, Monday afternoon ... Have you called the police and notified them there's a misused apostrophe in this thread?
If this is where I think it is in Lakeside, there's about a half acre of it two blocks from there.
So Herzog you're saying now its ok to pick stuff from other people's yards without asking?
Because I'm feeling pedantic -- if we're being punctuation police: When referring to something that belongs to more than one person, a regular plural noun (a noun that adds an s to indicate plural) ...
"To show plural possession, simply put an apostrophe after the s."

So in this case the garage belonging to the neighbors, more than one person, would become the neighbors' garage.
Same rule: owl.english.purdue.edu.

And the reason I clicked on the comments at all was to add a more positive comment which is .... even though I knew about this yesterday, and this morning my Facebook feed told me there's free rhubarb for the picking at the Hillside Public Orchard. Go, pick, post photos of what you make on their Facebook page.
I could be wrong, but is there not an easement along the alley, similar to the area between the road and the sidewalk on a street, that would actually make the location of this Rhubarb on public property?
I've seen roaming packs of kids clean out neighbor's apple trees in a matter of minutes, long before the apples were ripe. I'm guessing this rhubarb thief must not live very far away if they were aware of a patch hidden in the alley?
Jesus. Kerc just tore me a new one here. Touche. No, yer right though, what happened to you Duluth? You used to be a safe place to raise kids. Guess I just never could've foreseen the ferocity with which Minnesotans would come to hold rhubarb this dear to their hearts, 80's invasive junk plant that it was where I grew up, acres upon acres of it going to seed as they did. Maybe if you manicured the lawn around the patch, and put up a fence around it? And I'm not sayin' it's right, but don't you feel better knowing the perps have some kind of botanical knowledge? Maybe their baby was gonna die if it didn't have fresh rhubarb pie? Who are we to judge?
Sorry Herzog, I didn't mean to come off as harsh. In truth -- E is the person I go to for double checking my written work so I was surprised he would have mis-used grammar/punctuation. (Hence the reason I looked it up).
E was so surprised by this happening that he did check in with the family behind us, they didn't know it was happening and were pissed.
Touche on it being the right of way. To me it feels strange for a 60 year old dude to "steal" something from someone's yard. Somehow it feels different than a 12 year old picking apples. I know that's a slippery line there. E posted this on facebook and my response there was what guy that meets this description doesn't know someone in Duluth who can supply rhubarb. Heck if the guy had stopped and asked me, "you have any rhubarb to spare?" I would have gladly cut a few stalks and moved on.
You people are too much. This is the most fun I've had on PDD in a long time. Actually as my GF points out, since the term Lumbersexual was coined. That one really lifted me up.
