My favorite weekend night activity is to go to the Inn on Lake Superior in Canal Park, act like I'm staying there, and get in on the free 'smore action on the patio.

With two weeks I would for sure take a day to head to Lester River and hike and then head up to Split Rock to hike.  I would spend some time at Amazing Grace in Canal Park.  I would also check out what music is happeining at Pizza Luce, Sacred Heart Music Center and Beaner's.

Not sure where you're coming FROM, but I'd recommend a drive up the North Shore, a visit to Split Rock Lighthouse, a dinner at Lemon Wolf Cafe in Beaver Bay, a slice of pie at Betty's Pie (the coffee there is horrid, though) and then back to Duluth. Climb to the top of Enger Tower, visit the shops in Canal Park, hope to see a foreign ship going through the canal, maybe have dinner at Grandma's or Lake Avenue Cafe (which probably has a new name by now) and walk around downtown to people watch. You never know what you'll see. Welcome to Duluth! (Home of my heart.)

The Scenic Cafe on the old North Shore road, Lake Avenue Cafe in the Dewitt Seitz building (but I haven't been there since the ownership change), At Sara's Table on 9th street....great breakfast's and they cook with really good ingredients.  Russ Kendall's smoked fish house in Knife River, Hacienda Del Sol on Superior Street for cheap mexican.  Bixby's in Mount Royal shopping area for bagels and coffee.  Dunn Brother's on London Road.  Someone else already mentioned Beaner's in West Duluth....definately a good cup of coffee and light fare food.

The Hacienda is good for CaliMex, but way too much cheese to be truly authentic...for the authentic mexico...maya across from the mall.

Lindo, I've heard, is tops. haven't been to find out for myself.

maya has the finest fajitas north of the (TX/OK) Red River.

Lindo is great, I grew up in Cali, and Lindo is the most authentic to me. Hacienda is like Mexican McDonalds. And Piffmop? Don't waste your time on Danny does Duluth --seriously. Big yawn, and 30 minutes of your life you will never have back.

really Zra you haven' been to Lindo? I'm moderately shocked. Doing anything Weds or Fri for lunch?

Just gotta say the cafe at Zeitgeist has totally changed my dining habits!Every time I've eaten there, I leave elated that I live in this town.

I would like to also recommend Maya up by the mall.  It's sort of a pain in the ass trying to figure out how to actually get there these days, but the chow is good.

Danny, let me give you some constructive criticism: less humming and hawing and "ummmmm, ummmmmmmm, ummmmmmm" would go a longgggggggg way. Don't quit your day job (if you have one, that is). But I do like the song that you use to intro the show.

Cando: Zeitgiest has a great curry sauce - the mussels are just one thing there that I guess folks must rave about to you. I had the rice bowl and flourless chocolate cake there the other night and the cake reminded me of the old Table of Contents in St. Paul. Good stuff!

@Terry G, you are so right about that curry sauce! Made me want to skip the mussels and just spoon some curry sauce into my mouth. I hear the rice bowls are also terrific. I just love the vibe there. We were there the other night, knew half the people at the bar. Went to Blackwater across the street afterwards, and knew nobody. Where do the people who frequent Blackwater come from anyways?

Sala Thai up in Woodland.  Best tasting food in this town by far.
