Homegrown Music Festival 2024 Primer
Every year the Homegrown Music Festival publishes a Field Guide with all the intricate details of the eight-day extravaganza. And every year Perfect Duluth Day kicks out a little rundown of updates, sidebar details and notes about peripheral, unsanctioned or otherwise-related items of interest at party time. This year there is just one official schedule change (so far), but plenty of sidebar updates.
Keep in mind that the most accurate version of the schedule is always at duluthhomegrown.org/schedule. The Field Guide version, as of the start of the festival, is accurate minus one lineup change: Mary Bue will be performing at 7:45 p.m. on Monday at Bent Paddle Brewing, replacing Amy Abts.
In what is becoming an annual tradition outside the purview of the festival is photographer Aaron Reichow‘s photo exhibition. His shots from last year’s Homegrown will be on display at Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum throughout the festival and into the month of June. There will be an artist talk on May 11.
WDSE 103.3 FM “The North” will again have Live from Studio A sessions throughout the week. The schedule is as follows.
Monday, April 29, at 10 a.m. – Hot Club of Duluth
Tuesday, April 30, at 5 p.m. – The Trash Cats
Friday, May 3, at 3 p.m. – Janie and the Spokes
There will likely also be sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, but they are not yet confirmed. The North has also released a video titled Live from Studio A: Homegrown Music Tune-Up Special with performances by Shane Nelson and the Gemstones. It airs on PBS North on May 2 at 9 p.m. and is also available on YouTube and embedded below.
Duluth Coffee Company is again hosting live music every morning during the festival. Curly & the Coffee Cats play Monday through Thursday; Bubble Bubble Bubble plays Friday through Sunday.
For those participating in fashion themes, that info is laid out above.
Homegrown’s new headquarters, the Chicken Shack, is in the Duluth Armory Annex at 1325 London Road. The open hours are listed in the graphic above.
Who is playing in Rich Narum’s living room on Thursday? The lineup is in the poster above, with set times listed below.
5:15 p.m. – Dance Attic
6:15 p.m. – Theory of Light
7:15 p.m. – The Bitter Spills
8:15 p.m. – LiefHinkel
Northern Waters Smokehaus has a lineup of music during the week, which is carefully outlined in the chicken-scratch poster above.
