Duluth’s Best Bread announces second location in soon-to-be former Blacklist space, crowdfunding campaign underway
Brothers Michael and Robert Lillegard of Duluth’s Best Bread say customers are eating faster than they can bake. The video for a new crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo includes the long-anticipated announcement that the Lincoln Park bakery is adding a second location in the Downtown Duluth space presently occupied by Blacklist Brewing. Blacklist is planning a move into the former Carlson Book building.
Duluth’s Best Bread was launched in 2015 at 2632 W. Third St. and continues to operate there. Blacklist was founded in 2012 and moved to 120 E. Superior St. in 2016; it plans to move to 206 E. Superior St. in 2022, after which Duluth’s Best Bread will open its second location in the former Blacklist space.
Duluth’s Best Bread specializes in “crusty sourdough, flaky croissants, and gourmet Pop Tarts and Orios — plus giant pecan caramel rolls and Big Fat German Pretzels.” The new location will have four times the space as the tiny Lincoln Park building, which previously was a takeout pizza business, so the Lillegard’s promise to “dramatically expand” their baking capabilities.
The crowdfunding campaign is seeking $55,000 to pay for a Bongard Soleo M4 oven from France, which the Lillegard’s say will “massively increase” the amount of bread they will be able to make. They say additional funds beyond the $55,000 will go toward a $32,500 macaron depostor to increase production of macarons.
