PDD Quiz: Superior Laws

This week’s quiz tests your knowledge of Superior’s code of ordinances (check out a quiz on Duluth laws here).

#1. Horses, ponies, mules, and similar animals must be kept this far away from public buildings and human habitations (other than the owner’s).

Sec. 22-62 regulates livestock.

According to Sec. 54-33 (a)(1), “smoke detectors with battery power only are acceptable within one- or two-family dwellings constructed prior to April 1, 1992. One- or two-family dwellings constructed after April 1, 1992, shall have smoke detectors powered by the building electrical system and the smoke detectors within each unit shall also be interconnected. One- or two-family dwellings built on or after April 1, 2001, shall have smoke detectors powered by the building electrical system with additional battery backup. The smoke detectors within each unit shall be interconnected and a smoke detector shall be placed within each bedroom.”

Sec. 22-68(d)(3) regulates the feeding of songbirds. 

#4. How many on-premises seats must an establishment with a Class B intoxicating liquors license have?

The city of Superior elected to only offer Class B licenses for intoxicating liquor; according to Wisconsin Statute § 125.51(3)(b), municipalities can elect to have Class B liquor licenses allow for alcohol to be sold for on-site or off-site consumption. 

#5. How many garbage receptacles does the city provide to each residential premises?

This is outlined in Sec. 58-15. 

#6. When does curfew start for children under the age of 16?

Curfew for children under the age of 16 is from 9:30 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the following day, according to Sec. 86-4 (b)(2).

#7. True or False: It is illegal to spit on the sidewalk in Superior.

According to Sec. 86-14, “it shall be unlawful for any person to spit or emit any spittle or to discharge or throw any mucus or other secretion from or contents of the mouth or nose or any cigar stub, tobacco quid, fruit peeling or other waste substance, on any public floor, stairway, sidewalk, platform or other public place or conveyance in the city.”

#8. How many dogs or cats are allowed in any residential lot (except in areas that are zoned suburban)?

Litters under four months old are exempted under Sec. 22-61.

#9. When is overnight camping permitted on Wisconsin Point?

Sec. 90-76 (b) regulates camping on Wisconsin Point. 

#10. Which of the following may be thrown from an aircraft?

According to Sec. 10-1, any of these may be ejected from an aircraft “when absolutely essential to the safety of the occupants of the aircraft.”
