Virtual Broadway murder mystery musical is set in Duluth

Detective Case is finally on the case. Sing along with Jessica Keenan Wynn in the video above. She plays the role of a meter maid “doling tickets out in Downtown Duluth” until a murder case takes her in a new direction.

A Killer Party is a remotely performed musical made for the internet, produced during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a collaboration between more than 50 Broadway professionals, shot in their homes and distributed as a nine-episode web series that was launched Aug. 5 on Vimeo.

All nine episodes are available for $12.99 at akillerpartymusical.com. The “sizzle reel” is below.

Plot: When the artistic director of a failing theater in Duluth invited his troupe of actors and collaborators to the first read of an “immersive murder mystery dinner party,” no one knew that the host would be the victim. Or did they? Enter eager, determined, and untested Detective Justine Case. After sequestering the guests into separate rooms, she gets down to finding out whodunnit — uncovering showmances, life-long grudges, backstage drama, and a whole lot of song and dance. Case vows to find the truth and secure her future as a great detective.

The opening track of the show, featuring Varthur McArthur, does not mention Duluth but does mention Lake Superior.
