Video Archive: KDLH-TV Evening Edition from Sept. 28, 1990
Get ready for some “News for the Nineties.” Courtesy of an old VHS tape in the PDD basement archive, we present the complete KDLH-TV evening newscast from 30 years ago today — Sept. 28, 1990. And yes, the commercials are included.
A little Googling provides the following where-are-they-now info on the former KDLH news team.
Darren Danielson was an anchor at KDLH from 1986 to 1991. He left TV news and worked as a financial planner for 20 years before returning to host nightly newscasts at WDIO-TV in 2011. Danielson remained on television for most of his financial planning years, serving as co-host on the weekly public affairs program Almanac North on WDSE-TV from 1997 to 2011.
Debby Desmonde was the 1979 Miss Minnesota. She spent time at KDLH and WDIO before leaving Duluth and working for 25 years managing her husband’s psychology practice. She died in 2017.
University of Wisconsin-Superior grad Theresa Bryant left KDLH in 1992 and moved to Davenport, Iowa, where she remains a member of the KWQC-TV news team.
Kevin DiLorenzo moved on to work in advertising and public relations in Minneapolis. He is now president and CEO of Rise and Shine and Partners.
Ryan Davenport continued in television news at the satellite All News Channel before entering the field of public relations. He worked for 20 years with various companies before launching his own firm, DavenPR, in 2015.
“Mr. Sports in the Twin Ports” Marsh Nelson worked for KDLH from 1958 to 1994 and was widely considered the dean of Duluth sportscasters. He died in 1997.
Laura Novak and Stacey Scheibel were not easily found with internet searches. (And the spelling of Stacey Scheibel is a guess.)

This second clip is the final half of KDLH’s First Edition program, which aired at 5 p.m. Desmonde chats with Dr. Walter Brown, director of the Center for Scientific Creation. Also, Jeff Papas previews the slate of prep football games. And a story out of Salina, Kan., about a 3-year-old boy who delivers a baby.
And above are the local high school football highlights from WDIO, KBJR and KDLH-TV, featuring Steve LePage (WDIO), Mike Hart and Mike Birkeland (KBJR) and Jeff Papas (KDLH).
