Luke Redfield – “Ides of May”
In the song “Ides of May,” Luke Redfield lyrically implores, “If I’m the one for you, baby, meet me in Duluth.”
Redfield was born in Duluth, but has since lived in numerous parts of America and sojourned abroad. A news release for his sophomore album Tusen Takk, noted “Ides of May” is a “Tom Waits-channeled” song “performed on an old, off-key piano in a rickety Duluth attic.” The album was released on March 6, 2012. Two other tracks on the record, “Cowboy Song” and “Walk in Love,” pair Redfield with former Duluth musician Haley.
“Ides of May”
Please don’t close your door
I want to know you more
We were just kids when we first met
Not it’s the ides of May
If I’m the one for you
Baby meet me in Duluth
Will I feel like an old freight train
Singing my songs to the sea
There’s a lighthouse on the edge of town
Won’t you go there with me?
Drinking wine and sweet vermouth
Baby meet me in Duluth
