Duluth Trivia Deck Sampler #12

A few years ago, I bought a Duluth Trivia game at Savers. Here are some more questions.

1. Where is the Chambers Grove picnic area?
2. What is the name of the annual dog sled race that begins in Duluth?
3. What is the name of the longest fresh-water sandspit in the world?
4. How many stars are in the cluster of stars in the official seal of the city of Duluth? What do they represent?
5. Who was William T Boutwell?
6. When was Fond du Lac annexed by the city of Duluth?

Let me be the first to admit I have no idea what those five stars represent.

I'm not sure if anyone knows what those five stars represent. The Saver's question is probably referring to the eleven (very small) stars that are around the left-side barrel of wheat and those represent the eleven original townships. But the rather lengthy description of the meaning of the seal that was written when the flag was adopted forgot to mention the meaning of those more prominent five silver stars.

The coat of arms for the USS Duluth, commissioned in 1965, takes one element from Duluth's seal -- that diagonal band of five silver stars, but again the rather detailed description of the coat of arms fails to mention what the five stars actually mean.

The seal predates the Duluth flag by 100 years and has been in use in some form since 1877. I'm not sure if that makes it more or less likely that someone might know what those five stars symbolize. Maybe the new Duluth flag should just be that band of five stars and we can all assume that this in some way represents the very essence of Duluth.
