I recently came across this footlocker-style trunk and inside it had a sticker from the Duluth Trunk Factory. I’m wondering if anyone knows the history of this particular company.
In the Saturday, July 30, 1898 edition of Labor World, it says that the Duluth Trunk Factory is owned by J. Chrudinsky, and employs four men. "A full line of trunks and traveling bags is handled."
There are a lot of advertisements in the Duluth Daily News in 1888.
And the Buchanan Block fire damaged their stock circa 1896, but it was insured.
It looks like Duluth Trunk moved around a bit, but always on the lower 200 block of West Superior St. Buchanan Block was at 208 W. Superior St. They were also at 214 E. Superior St. before they were at 220 W. Superior St., mentioned in the ad above. That building was constructed in 1893 as the Herald Building, home of the Duluth Herald.
