O’Neill’s Pub and Liquor in Superior is closed

oneills-pub-superior-wiAfter 23 years in business, the owners of O’Neill’s Pub and Liquor closed its doors after ringing in the new year with customers on Saturday.

The laid back Irish pub at 3333 Tower Avenue in Superior featured weekly $1 tap beer and $2 Bloody Mary specials and had the distinction of being Superior’s only drive-through liquor store.

In 2014, Thrillest touted O’Neill’s as one of the top ten drive-through liquor stores in the country. Wisconsin is one of only six states where this modern convenience is legal.

A testimonial from O’Neill’s website colorfully demonstrates the Wisconsin bar’s blue-collar charm.

“Come to get boozed up with the salt of the earth and leave having spent less money than you thought you would. Now eat your beef stick and drink your beer.”

Owners Tom and Nancy O’Neill made a Facebook post on Dec. 31 thanking their patrons, but declined to comment for this story.

Update via the Superior Telegram: Superior attracts new flavors

The former O'Neill's Pub and Liquor, 3333 Tower Ave., with its famous drive-through sales window, is being repurposed to serve up Superior sushi. The sale was announced on Facebook last week by Re/Max Results realtor Ryan Bayless, who represented the buyers.   The restaurant, tentatively named "Wasabi," could open as soon as April.
