Michael Novitzki will host The Duluth Local Show on the Current
The Current announced in a news release today that Michael Novitzki will host its revamped version of The Duluth Local Show, which will launch May 1 on the low-power 90.9 FM and air every Sunday at 8 p.m. Also announced in the release: Cecilia Johnson has been named Local Current blogger.
From the news release:
Novitzki, a Minneapolis native, has been a Duluth resident since 2007 and an integral part of the Twin Ports music scene. As a student at University of Minnesota Duluth, he was an overnight DJ at KUMD. After graduation in 2011, Novitzki became assistant music director at the station, also hosting Music Through the Day and Live from Studio A.
“I became hooked on Duluth after my first Homegrown Music Festival when I realized the city had its own unique musical identity and traditions,” said Novitzki. “I love this city for its deliciously flavorless tap water, lack of rush-hour traffic, and of course the autonomous and vibrant local music scene and I can’t wait to shine a light on what’s happening here.”
The Duluth Local Show will be rebroadcast on the Local Current stream on Mondays at 2 p.m., after the rebroadcast of The Local Show and will also be archived online. The Duluth Local Show pre-empts Sound Opinions on 90.9 in Duluth. The Duluth Local Show is supported in part by the Minnesota Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Johnson, the new Local Music blogger who will be based in St. Paul, has been a college contributor for the Local Current Blog since 2014. She’s also freelanced for various music media, and has covered concerts in the Twin Cities and beyond, including coverage of the Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival for Billboard Magazine. She graduated from Hamline University last year with a bachelor of arts degree in English and Spanish. In her new role, she will cover the local Twin Cities music scene.
Both Novitzki and Johnson will work closely with The Local Show producer and host Andrea Swensson and the local music team.
