Recommendations on short-term accommodations in Duluth

Perhaps someone can provide a bit of advice on short-term accommodations in our fair city. I’m currently in the process of finishing my thesis and am being seriously handicapped by my roommate situation. There’s no hard feelings, but the scale of work I’ve left to accomplish is simply too grand and requires an environment where I can devote some serious attention to my work. Of course, being a student, money remains a sizable obstacle. I can afford $375 for a month, but finding such a short-term lease has proven impossible. As such, I was wondering if you fine folks would happen to have any creative thoughts on the matter. I am open to just about any solutions.

I appreciate the consideration and a very happy Homegrown to everybody!

There probably isn't much advice anyone can give on this subject. A short-term lease at $375 a month is generally only possible through good luck. You might have to meet the right person at the right time to pull it off.

I had a similar situation when I first moved here. Was buying a house but couldn't move in for a few weeks, and was coming up from Mpls to work during the week, back to Mpls on weekends. The apartment places wouldn't even call back for a short-term arrangement like that. I ended up staying for a week or 2 at the Edgetown motel, out on 53 past Menards. The room had a stove and little refrigerator, they would rent by the week. I remember a couple of David Lynchy moments, but nothing bad. That was about 15 years ago, but I think it's still out there.

Thanks for the responses gentleman. I am certainly aware of the inherent challenges and figured I'd throw it out to the community for a bit of good luck. Nothing comes to those who don't try.

The Wabegon Supper Club -- on the edge of town, technically outside Duluth by a few hundred feet -- has cabin rentals that would probably suit your needs perfectly, but cost more than the desired amount. I think they still have $1 beers on Thursdays, though, so that might help balance your budget.

I've heard that Cape Superior Inn (north of town on the scenic highway, next to the Clearwater Grille) offers monthly rates. You may also want to try the Androy Hotel, Superior Inn, or Bay Motel (all in Superior).

Justin, please send me an e-mail at davidsyring @ yahoo.com. I have a potential solution for your accommodation needs but would need to discuss your specific details more. Would require you be willing to be "out in the country" a ways (about 12 miles from Superior), if that's possible for you. Very quiet spot. Somewhat rustic living space.
