Selective Focus: Siblings

Sharon Mollerus

Sharon Mollerus, “Scuffle”

Our first friends, as goes the cliché; seldom mellifluous relationships, ever-vying for our parents’ beneficence, until one day we can’t. Others may love the personae we construct, but they can never supplant the primacy of our siblings who’ve known us longer, seen the rough drafts of our most essential selves, and if we’re fortunate, still care.

In light of the recent re-ignition of the DPG (Duluth Photographers Guild)- a meeting which I deeply regret missing- next week’s theme will be “Richard Narum.” Pugnacious, mercurial, ever the hirsute belle of some deranged ball. I’ve got a feeling the inbox will be deluged.

As a late entry, I submit this ancient family photo, which recently experienced some water damage. Since the highest number of siblings in the feature above is six, I thought I'd up it to seven. My great grandparents are front and center, surrounded by their brood.

Mostly I'm sharing this because I think the water damage somehow improved what was already an awesome photo. Don't feel bad for me, there are numerous undamaged copies of the photo spread throughout the family tree.
