Wow...good to know. We live 80 miles north of Duluth and usually come down around this time to throw some money around shops and resturants. Think we'll try Thunder Bay instead.

The city of Thunder Bay maintains and operates 15 pay lots and 2 parking structures. Fees are charged year-round.

Yeah, that is slightly silly, "Have to pay a few bucks for parking in Duluth? screw that, lets drive an additional 30 miles to go somewhere else and pay for parking there instead!"

MEA weekend. Hotels in the area are sold out. Only makes sense to maximize the parking revenue.

Just sucks for those of us who look forward to the end of the pay lot season so we can reclaim the ability to park near the downtown end of the Lakewalk for our pilgrimages to the Lake.

And yes, I get that in other cities they pay a lot more, and year round, to park. But we are not used to that system here and it is reasonable for folks to mourn the loss of free parking, even if it is only an extension of a few days.

I don't think anyone was making fun of Paul's lament about the actual extension of paid parking. Instead I think they were referring to someone's decision to drive to another country instead of paying $2 to park.

Biff Nimrod must be winding us up.

Also, the Lake Place lot is only $.50/hour.

I was going to head down to Canal Park Brewery for a glass of their Octoberfest beer. But now I guess I'll just fly to Munich!

Doesn't take much to wind y'all up...anyway, I'd rather swallow my tongue than be in your town during MEA weekend, I'll be swattin 'em up here as it is...

I remembered seeing this post a while back, so while out in Canal Park last night to enjoy dinner at Cloud 9 and take in the Haunted Ship neither I or a friend paid for parking at the lot near Red Lobster and the Irvin. At 8:30pm, as we returned to our cars, we saw a parking official just finish issuing tickets to each car in the lot. I'm a bit surprised. Are these lots enfourced year-round? Until how late at night?

Were you at a metered lot?

That lot now has one of those parking kiosks.

I know the free winter parking in Canal Park applies to all metered spots and the lot between Grandma's and Dewitt-Seitz, but I don't know what the deal is with those confounded kiosks.
