“It’s going to be a great year for swimming”

Jay Austin, a lake researcher at the University of Minnesota Duluth, says Lake Superior is running warm this spring after a warm winter and lack of ice cover. The lake’s summer “turnover,” in which the warm water from below replaces cooler surface water, may occur in early June instead of the customary early July.

I'm hoping for a kickback from the Chamber of Commerce for the swimming comment.

Seriously, just got back from seven days on the lake and it's as warm as it's ever been at this time of year. It's about 6 weeks ahead of schedule.

I went for a June 2 swim at Wisconsin Point and it was stunningly warm.

By the way, Park Point officially "opens" on June 8 -- as in that's the date the Public Beach House opens. The YMCA is the current manager of the Park Point Beach House and staffs it with lifeguards from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week, weather permitting, until the last week in August.

Double by the way, I noticed recently that there are three new Loll benches outside the beach house for your relaxing pleasure.
