Since the Southgate Bowl in Cloquet is shutting down to make way for a Walgreens, it seems fitting to pay tribute. Best wishes to Gerry and Rose Pollard, who opened the place in the 1970s.
Has it already been demolished? Although we typically don't salvage elements from the 1970s, there's a pretty good market for the benches and select items. If anyone knows the status, feel free to e-mail me at johnm @ lakenet.com (North Shore Architectural Antiques). Thanks.
It's still open. I shot the photos above on Saturday. I'm not sure when the last frames will be bowled there. Walgreens construction is expected to start this summer.

That's my childhood right there Paul! I for one am sad to see it go. I spent numerous nights hanging out watching the action, cartwheeling up and down the Pizzaria's hallway, eating tons of candy and Southgate cheese bread, and climbing the hills behind the building while various family members bowled. I remember when you would walk in and it would be so smokey you could barely see the opposite end. Thanks for the photos! =)
