Zenith City writers share their work

The Podium at Teatro Zuccone

Last night I attended a very special evening of area writers sharing essays, poems and stories at Teatro Zuccone. It’s really exciting to see this kind of event assembled. Kudos to all involved. If winter is the off-season for the Duluth arts and culture scene, you’d never know it by all the things happening in our community these days. Here’s a link to my review of the event last night and the writers who alternately made us laugh or think more deeply about the meanings of our lives, sometimes at the same time.

Last night was the kind of night that makes me happy to live in Duluth. There is some serious creative genius in this town.

Thank you for the spelling correction. As regards your first comment, yes indeed.
It is often stated that the solutions to big problems will come from outside "the system" and it is possible we're seeing something significant in our Duluth community. Instead of the usual political voices of power there seems an emergence of creative energy that is inspiring dialogue and new forms of expression. Maybe this is the old idealist in me, but it's interesting to observe what has been happening.

I believe there is a literary/artistic renaissance going on in Duluth right now, and it's very exciting to be part of it. I go to NYC a lot for work and hang out with creative types there, and I think there's a lot more energy here per capita than there is there. Really.
