Duluth Preschools

My daughter just turned four in October. She won’t make the cut-off for kindergarten next fall so we’re looking for a preschool to enroll her in next fall. Any recommendations?

After three attempts at finding the right preschool we hooked up with the Preschool Of Fine Arts.

722.3688.

Miss Jodi and Miss Emily are amazing with kids! They did a great job with Hazel and seem to have Walter figured out pretty good too, and I'm sure Leo will fit right in...

+1 for Preschool of the Fine Arts. Sent my twins there and they absolutely loved to go to school in the morning. They attempt to get the kids outside every day and incorporate the best of Duluth in their curriculum, the arts and the outdoors.

+1 For Miss Jodi and Miss Emily at Preschool of Fine Arts. These teachers have special places in our hearts as they hold our kids in special places in theirs. Our twins 'graduated' last spring but when we saw the teachers and class at the Y last Thursday, they both wrapped my girls up in big hugs and both had misty eyes.

They offer hands on, play-oriented programming with a lot of emphasis on getting kids outdoors. Our girls had a great time and learned a lot!

D,oh. I swear Chad's comment wasn't there when I composed my response. Whatever. PFA really is that good!

Lakewood Montessori Preschool- Flexible options, great staff, and a nice environment. They also have a scholarship program.

Are you looking for all day combination preschool-daycare or are you looking for something a few hours, a few days a week?

Ideally, the preschool would be 4-5 days per week, and yes, preferrably all day: 8 am - 5 pm.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Lakeside Presbyterian (not a religious preschool). But it can't come close to meeting 8-5.....we sent our kids there and then their daycare is a few doors away.

I've met EvilResident in person, and despite his online name and avatar, he's not at all evil.

My boys are currently at Little Red Schoolhouse (Jenny Lancrete) and love it a lot. Miss Jenny, who previously taught elementary school, does preschool four mornings a week, and is open 7-5 for daycare as well. My four-year-old is there full time, and my six-year-old is there after school. Both boys were there full time all summer, and they really enjoyed having Mister Pete (Jenny's husband, who teaches at Lester Park Elementary) around to play baseball with them. Pete and Jenny also have the two super nice kids of their own. It's in Lakeside, though, so only helpful if that's reasonable for where you work or live.

Before that, my boys were at Benedictine Developmental Preschool, the little one for one year and the older one for almost two years. The first year my older son was there was great. His teacher was AMAZING and there was another teacher there he really clicked with. Then second year, our experience went downhill a bit, but that may have been unique to us. Then we ended up needing to move anyway so that childcare was within our neighborhood, for busing reasons - something to consider when making your choice!

Our boys both went to Jefferson Children's Center. They are awesome. They are particularly good for any kids with food allergies as they are very experienced with them.

We have three kids in Happy Time Daycare on w27th. Love it. Nancy and her crew are wonderful with the children, so respectful. The setting is safe, and the curriculum comprehensive and community oriented. Children our outside nearly everyday, often walking to area parks. They also 'investigate' local businesses and services to learn about community.

Definitely worth checking out http://www.happytimedaycare.com/.

I have to echo Duluth Preschool of Fine Arts supporters. We are very happy there and our children are very happy there, as well.

As far as UNS, although I am sure EvilResident is an excellent childcare teacher, stay away. We were displeased with the care provided, teacher-to-child ratio, lack of communication, and lack of caring when our concerns were brought to the management.

Thanks for all of the feedback and suggestions. I was hoping for some sort of consensus, which would make my job easier. I guess options are good. Thanks again.

I got to this thread a little late, but I must say, without taking anything away from the recommendations above, that Hidden Valley Preschool gave our son a great education while at the same time being clean, friendly, economical, convenient, and very attentive. I cannot recommend them enough. Over in Congdon, on Hidden Valley drive, right around 36th. Call Missy at (218) 590-1220.
