Arrowhead Regional Arts Council Community Arts Learning Grants

The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council approved on October 20, 2011, grant applications totaling $22,220 to be awarded in Arts and Cultural Heritage Community Arts Learning Grants. The funding for these grants is made available by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. The arts organizations funded are as follows:

Lincoln Elementary School – Hibbing ($2,400) The Lincoln Elementary School will use this grant to support a two-week residency with song writer and musician Charlie Maguire.

Mesabi Community Orchestra – Virginia ($5,000) Mesabi Community Orchestra will use this grant to collaborate with area elementary schools to create a multi-media concert presentation of “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky, performed by the orchestra and illustrated by the students.

Hazel Belvo – Grand Marais ($5,000) Hazel Belvo will use this grant to create a two-week art appreciation experience for the community of Grand Marais and Cook County consisting of an open studio and lectures.

MacRostie Art Center – Grand Rapids ($4,820) The MacRostie Art Center will use this grant to present a five-day workshop for watercolor artists with visiting artist and instructor Christopher Schink.

North Shore Music Association – Grand Marais ($5,000) The North Shore Music Association will use this grant to present the Grammy Award winning Parker Quartet offering a full day of K-12 workshops and an all ages evening performance at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts in Grand Marais.
