Black winter radishes, marachino cherries, and grapefruit, milk-fed chicken ... thanks, Paul, that was a fun read. Wonder what the women of Duluth wanted to eat?
I wonder if the celery predilection is related to the great quantity grown by Hartley in his fields and sold locally.
Also, whatever happened to plum pudding? Does anybody in America eat plum pudding anymore?
hbh: My family has always eaten a dish similar to plum pudding called "moon pudding." Like a lot of holiday puddings, it's made of sweetened suet which is wrapped in a cloth and boiled for a long time (I think more than an entire day.) Our version also has raisins in it.
