Arrowhead Regional Arts Council Grants
The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council recently approved grant applications totaling $43,440 to be awarded in ARAC Art Project Grants. The funding for these grants is made available by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, and an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature. The arts organizations funded are as follows:
Art Project Grants Awarded
WTIP Northshore Community Radio – Grand Marais ($4,300) WTIP Northshore Community Radio will use this grant to produce their two day Music Festival in September in Grand Marais to bring together an eclectic mix of Northshore bands and showcase their art.
Lake Superior Youth Chorus – Duluth ($6,000) The Lake Superior Youth Chorus will use this grant to produce a concert of Native American music working with guest clinician/composer/performer and Anishinabe member, Elizabeth Jaakola, along with the Anishinaabe Youth Chorus and an area elementary school choir.
Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra – Duluth ($5,875) The Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra will use this grant to present a multi-media event featuring projected images and live dance in conjunction with the chamber orchestra performance.
The College of St. Scholastica – Duluth ($6,000) The College of St. Scholastica will use this grant to host a performance of The Intergalactic Nemesis on November 10, 2011, in the Mitchell Auditorium.
Common Language – Duluth ($5,575) Common Language will use this grant to host the 10th North Shore Iron Pour and Iron Casting Seminar.
Sound Unseen International Duluth – Duluth ($6,000) Sound Unseen International Duluth will use this grant to produce the 2nd Annual Sound Unseen International Duluth Festival of Film, Music and Art.
Three Bridges International Chamber Music Festival – Duluth ($6,000) Three Bridges International Chamber Music Festival will use this grant to present a free chamber music concert at Sacred Heart Music Center featuring performances by faculty and students of the Three Bridges International Chamber Music Festival.
Esko Community Education – Esko ($2,000) Esko Community Education will use this grant to host Prairie Fire Theatre to work with area youth in the communities of Barnum and Cloquet to produce an original play spotlighting their young people.
Spirit Lake Poetry Series – Duluth ($6,000) Spirit Lake Poetry Series will use this grant to produce a poetry reading series for fall, 2011, and spring, 2012, featuring nationally and regionally known writers, plus an open reading.
Matinee Musicale – Duluth ($2,690) Matinee Musicale will use this grant to present a concert by the Parker Quartet, winners of the Grammy Award for Chamber Music in 2011.
MacRostie Art Center – Grand Rapids ($3,000) MacRostie Art Center will use this grant to produce its 19th Annual Juried Exhibition.
