With the notable exceptions of the PDD Grammar Post and the PDD Troll Zone, what has been the most controversial post on PDD?

I'd have to put Left Wing Nut Job right up there.

One of the great things about that thread is that includes the entire text of Romeo and Juliet.

Oh, and Left Wing Nut Job had 151 comments.

I can't find the links right now, but I would nominate the sign-grabbing controversy during the anti-Bush rally and the Duluth pantyhose women on eBay.

Sadly, all the comments are lost to the posts from Perfect Duluth Day's first generation (June 2003 to August 2004). But the posts still exist.

Pantyhose babes from Duluth, MN/Rare Never Seen/Hot
Back to the Front

On Aug. 9, 2004, Bad Cat! discovered an item on eBay titled "Pantyhose babes from Duluth, MN /RARE NEVER SEEN/HOT," posted by the eBay user "marbleheaddarbys." This dude was trying to sell a compact disc with hundreds of images of Duluth women. His ad noted that the subjects were "everyday women in my home town, dressed in skirts, heels and pantyhose."

The photos were shot without the consent of the women, and were obviously meant to appeal to a sexual fetish, so naturally it created a stir.

Bad Cat! posted about this on Perfect Duluth Day and a Duluth News Tribune reporter saw the post and called eBay for comment, which resulted in the prompt removal of the item from eBay. It had been listed for a couple days and had no bidders.

(This happened early in PDD's history, and was thought to be the longest public commentary thread on the site at the time. It generated 52 comments in about 40 hours -- a record that's been broken several times since then -- not that we court controversy and keep careful track of these things. There's no record of how many comments came after the first 52 because all the comments are lost now. We only know about the 52 because it was referenced in another post.)

Re: Romeo and Juliet ... that was me. Tamara hates it when I do that.

I wasn't going to name names, zra. But as long as we're on the topic...

Romeo & Juliet is playing Friday, August 19 at 7:00 and Sunday, August 21 at 2:00 at the Playhouse and my daughter is playing Juliet.

Y'know... since you brought it up and all...

Also, the "Duluth Pantyhose Babes" story ended up in the US Section in USA Today.

Tamara, please, don't stir the pot!

I'll let you know that I was at the post office today, nobody offered anybody candy, and we went about our day.

I'm 99% sure Starfire was in line behind us to witness the no-candy offer. I think he could confirm that I didn't yell at anyone, and the children looked well-fed and happy.

I would have introduced myself, but, you know, I was 1% unsure.
