Haley Bonar – WOJB Concert Series at the Park Theater

Sublimely-talented Haley Bonar and her awesome band will be performing Friday, June 3 for the WOJB Concert Series at the Park Theater, 15791 U.S. HWY 63 in Hayward.

She’s about to head out on a nationwide tour starting mid-June with Andrew Bird and Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), so this is your best chance, Duluthians, to catch her live onstage. Hayward’s only about an hour-and-a-half south of you all. Don’t miss it!

Showtime is 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and available at wojb.org or 800-776-3689. They’ll be $20 at the door.

Good non-alchoholic drinks in Duluth

I would never consider myself a huge drinker but since I started trying to get pregnant earlier this year (and I am currently almost 11 weeks) I have missed the ability to experiment with different tastes and drinks. I’ve realized that I’m really unaware of the great non-alcoholic specialty drinks that may be floating out there in Duluth.

I’m also trying to stay away from too much caffeine, so I’ve been mainly sticking to McDonald’s lemonade or caffeine-free frappucinos from Starbucks when a sweet tooth strikes. There’s got to be something local out there to try, no? I was hoping the lovely folks at PDD had some ideas.

I’m already in love with the malts from the Portland Malt Shoppe, especially because it’s in walking distance from my apartment. Where should I try next?

Outdoor Gear Sample Sale

It won’t be as epic as Hansi’s, I’m sure, but I’m clearing out the samples this afternoon and tomorrow until noon.

Does anyone out there have (or know where I could get) an external SCSI cd rom drive? I’ve been to Roch Bochs, Downtown Computer, and John’s Twin Ports Recycling (WOW). No dice. There must be someone who can help??!?

Out with the Mayan, in with the Oriental

I’ve heard the Maya Mexican Restaurant at 220 W. Superior St. has been closed for a few weeks. It was indeed locked up today during the lunch hours.

One block up and one block over, the former Chef Yee’s location has a sign promising a new Oriental restaurant.

Horseback riding along Amity Creek Trail

I am wondering if folks who use the trail along Amity Creek between Amity Road and Maxwell/Skyline have issues with horseback riding in that area. My daughter and her friends ride their horses there when it is dried up in late spring into the fall. I also use the trail for hiking and mountain biking and like to see the trail kept as multi-use. I’m just looking for comments to see if there have been any problems encountered by folks using the trail. Please, no horse poop jokes. Thanks.
