Near East Fifth Street and 22nd Avenue East, just west of where the former UMD Old Main building was?

Fourth Street and approximately Eighth Avenue West.

It's not East Fifth Street and 22nd Avenue East.

Fourth Street and approximately Eighth Avenue West is a better guess.

I remember taking a sidewalk staircase once or twice while walking up to Eighth Street Video, but I don't remember exactly where it was. I'm assuming that's not the answer, though. Does anyone else know where that staircase is?

There are several of these staircases west of Mesabe Avenue between Third Street and Skyline Parkway, but I don't remember where they all are. Seventh Avenue West has a few; I think there's one off Pittsburg Avenue as well.

The Google shot isn't a bad guess. Wrong though. I used to pick up my newspapers at the intersection of Seventh Avenue West and Fourth Street -- the Duluth Herald back in the day.

I'll guess 25th Avenue East and Superior Street.

Chester Creek Park near a pavillion that looks down on the creek -- East Fifth Street and about 14th?

Third or Fourth Avenue West and Pittsburg Street.

Fourth Avenue West and Pittsburg is correct!

"llinmpls" sent me these additional images, noting: "The black and whites are the stairs looking from Fifth Street at Fourth Avenue West two winters ago. The color shot is a view from Fourth Avenue West & Pittsburg."

I was going to say Montmartre, Paris.

These "Where in Duluth?"s always depress me. I've lived here my entire life and I can't even figure most of them out. I need to get out more...

I had never even heard of Pittsburg Avenue until now. Looking at Google Maps, it seems as though it should be 5th 1/2 Street.

Growing up in that neighborhood we called Pittsburg the "first alley". There's another set of stairs on 3rd Ave. W. as well. A lot of that neighborhood is disappearing, I remember when folks used those stairs everyday.
