I think the bigger question we should be asking is why doesn't Toy Story 3 start at 7:50 pm?

Bad News Bears original or remake?

More accurate to say the start times are based on sunset, Tom. The angle of the sun is much lower in the sky in September, also the nights are often quite chilly in Sept. I assume these things played into the decision. However the most important thing is that this is a kid-oriented movie (although the timing appears to be planned to include College Students to play on that theme in the movie.) People bring their kids out to a movie and starting even at 7:30 it's getting late for the little ones.

Ahh, yes...the sunset. And that's two weeks later, whereas the others are all in one week increments. Thanks for the explanation, WG.

It's the 1976 version of Bad News Bears.

As a devotee of Movies in the Park, take the start time with a grain of salt. Very often the movie will start at least 15 or 20 minutes after the advertised start time due to all sorts of conditions. I, for one, don't mind. These gatherings are lots of fun.

I'm just sad that I'm not going to get a chance to see Casablanca on the big screen as I'm going to be in Little Shop of Horrors which runs that night.

Also, the hours of daylight is not a linear relationship with the date. The amount of daylight is decreasing at an increasing rate until the autumnal equinox.

You and me both, Ironic1, I will also miss Casablanca -- one of my favorite movies of all time. I'll just have to watch it at home... sigh. Great line up this summer, though, as always! Indie Day will be fantastic, under the stars!

Twlight? Really? That movie appeals to such a small age range. I hope they're ready for a bunch of teenagers to show up without parents(kids under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult).

Yay for Edward Scissorhands though!

The only movies that are even close to being appropriate for children under 7 are "Nemo" or Toy Story." Otherwise ... no thanks. I thought this was supposed to be family friendly.

Not everyone with families share your exact views on what is and isn't appropriate for their kids, you know.

Tom

Really? I haven't seen "Casablanca" or "The Great Outdoors" for a while, but from what I remember about them, children under 7 years old see and hear a lot worse in life everyday than what's in those movies.

But then again, I won't tell you how to parent your kids...

Tom

However, I can't guarantee you they won't want an "I've Been To Duluth" t-shirt after seeing "The Great Outdoors."

If JO takes the kids to see Toy Story 3 and they are (appropriately) amazed by the performance of the actor portraying Lotso, perhaps the family can do a little research and watch the film he is probably most famous for.

As a long-time fan of Movies in the Park, I appreciate that this event is for our whole community which includes movies for people of all ages such as families with kids to retired folks.

Over the years, it has been interesting to notice that "family friendly" movies tend to draw less people than classic oldies or action films.

I love that our town does this. It's easy to complain, but hard to understand and appreciate the work that goes into planning community events. Cheers to the Greater Downtown Council and the movie sponsors for putting this on.
