DAC Deli/Medical Arts Building?

Matt P is correct! The restaurant at the Medical Arts Building is now apparently called the Native Cafe. This is today's menu board, if you're wondering where to go for lunch.

For the uninitiated, Shit on a Shingle is an actual food, otherwise known by the more boring name of Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast. My mom used to make it now and then when I was a kid, and I have to say that it's pretty damn good. Of course the name made me cackle. Sometimes my mom would call it S.O.S. to be more polite, but usually it was just good ol' Shit on a Shingle.

I didn't try the Native Cafe's S.O.S. as I wasn't hungry, but I'll keep it in mind in the future.

I just ate there about a half hour ago and ordered the Omelet of the Day. Turns out they didn't actually have an omelet of the day planned - they just wrote Shit on a Shingle as a joke. Right after I ordered, the cook promptly erased that and asked me what I actually wanted on my omelet.

Actually, I wrote Native Cafe, but I believe it's called Native Chef. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Hell, feel free to correct me if I'm right.

It used to be called Something else,(The savory spoon? Loaf and ladle?)and we used to use it as a coffeehouse in the 80's before there were real coffeehouses in Duluth. Also, It was a quick elevator ride to the roof.

I love S.O.S. I also love creamed peas.

FYI, Stouffer's makes a frozen version of S.O.S that is quity tasty, although I needed to add pepper to mine. You have to provide your own toast, though. The box is misleading. (Found out the hard way...)

It was the Duluth Athletic Club deli for a bit, right before it switched to the Native Chef

Just a warning, I had a chicken sandwich there a couple weeks ago and I believe the meat was more closely related to a rodent ... I was very disappointed.

The pasta bar on Thursdays there is awesome. Right around $7-$8. You pick what you want in it and they cook it up in a pan in front of you. I can usually get a couple meals out of it - if I use a little restraint and don't gorge myself on the first helping.

I have their breakfast (bagel & wraps) specials all the time and they're delish.
