Name That Trail: The gravel one that goes from 63rd Avenue West, behind the zoo and under Ely’s Peak, out to I-35

TunnelTrail

Have you walked, biked, snowmobiled or whatevered this trail? It starts/ends just off of North 63rd Avenue West and Greene Street (though technically there are random sections of it that pop up further east) and goes west out to Beck’s Road and I-35, where it gradually disappears.

Eat Downtown: Duluth Restaurant Week

Eat Downtown: Duluth Restaurant Week

Duluth’s Downtown Waterfront is richly diverse in the types and styles of authentic food. For seven scrumptious days, May 10 – 16, 2010, residents and visitors of Duluth can take advantage of multi-course fixed-price menus at participating downtown waterfront restaurants.  Lunches are available for $10 and dinner is $20.  This is a perfect culinary showcase for our unique and distinctive downtown waterfront restaurants.

Population of Duluth: 1860 to 2000

Update: A more recent version of this chart with 2010 and 2020 figures and additional notes is now available.

I can’t remember ever seeing a graph of Duluth’s population over time, so I made one. The results of the 2010 U.S. Census aren’t in yet, but the state demographer estimated a population of 85,220 in 2008, so perhaps a slight dip can be expected.

The topic for discussion: What is the ideal population for Duluth?

Lutefisk: It’s not just fish, it’s law!

We are almost halfway to Lutefisk season, and I just wanted all of our good Wisconsin readers to know that under Wisconsin State Statute 101.58(2)(j)2.f., lutefisk is not a toxic substance in Wisconsin. Bon Appétit!

Homegrown and Stolen Jacket

Hi Everyone. I think this was the best Homegrown in my 11 years of enjoying it. This is Dave from the Brewhouse. I’m posting cuz I’m pretty upset about my jacket being stolen from the Red Star  on Saturday night between 1 am and 2 am. A green Arc’tereckx gore-tex shell I’ve been wearing about three years. I hung it under the bar and left for the bathroom then was chatting. It is Forest Green and  has three front zippers for pockets. It is my favorite. If anyone see’s someone wearing a coat like this please text me at 218.591.7741.

If you took my coat and read this take it to the Brewhouse or Red Star and drop it — no questions.

Snow!? Plan ahead…

Friday’s snow and today’s run reminded me that we — Positive Energy Outdoor (ed)Ventures — are looking for dog enthusiasts to help with training, care, and projects connected to our friendly team of Alaskan Huskies. Options range from just helping with care to four-wheeler training, cart and scooter training, sled runs, event help, guiding local day trips, overnights, and a two-week arctic trip next March. We look for volunteers, paid staff, and even the option where you pay us (trips, tours, lease a team for the winter). Learn more about us at outdooredventures.org or call 218-428-5990. All our adult adventure offerings help us serve local youth.
