Mexico Lindo soft opening at Fitger’s

The news of Mexico Lindo’s soft opening leaked out in the comments to an old post on this site, but I missed that. I was out and about, though, and saw from Superior Street that someone was eating at a window seat.

It was mighty busy in there for a sort-of-unannounced opening, but there was plenty of staff on hand to deal with it. Predictably, a few things were spilled and confusion with how to place orders on the computer was noticeable, but all in all things went very well. The food was great. The Lindos Special ($11.25) could feed three people.

I planned on going to the Brewhouse, but wandered up to check things out when lo and behold, we discovered Mexico Lindo was open. It was delicious and the service was great for the very, very first night.

That's great! I've never been to the one in Cloquet but I do love Mexican food. We'll have to check it out.

My wife, toddler and I went yesterday. Some comical errors (the "water" was Sprite, the "soft" taco was hardshell) but they made everything right.

Until recently I lived in California, and I may be a little bit of a Mexican food snob. I thought the food last night was pretty good.

Secretseasons, thanks for the reassurance. I'm kinda nervous about going to Mexico Lindo, I just came back from a week in California, where I indulged in some goooood Mexican food, as it's made only west of the Mississippi. (Washed down with margaritas, of course). I'll have to check it out; if the food is indeed good, my prayers will have been answered, as they were when Hanabi opened its doors.

Nice to hear some decent reviews. Can't wait to check it out!

We went opening night and were pleased! My margarita was a bit weak, but the food was tasty and the service was good considering it was the first day. We can't wait to go back and dine outside!

We went today for lunch. Food was amazing as to be expected. Our server was very untrained, which took me back a bit, but after all, it is their first week. I think it will be a great addition to the restaurant options for the downtown area!

We had dinner there tonight! It was good. Mr Claire had a stew I can never spell it, he said it was fabulous. I had fish tacos -- not as good as the fish tacos I had in Pacific Grove Monday. .. but come on. They were good. Pitcher of Margaritas -- most yum. Slow service, but very friendly, kept us updated on status of our order. I can hardly wait for the deck to open up.

Food is on par with Cloquet Mexico Lindo.

Some of the servers are very undertrained and a bit overwhelmed, and they are having a fair amount of POS issues (undertrained / lost tickets / misapplied tickets / misorders / lost orders). But, most of that will be sorted out shortly.

I, personally, will stay away from the high-traffic times for a while. I don't know if they take reservations over the phone, but when I went at 7:30 tonight, the wait was an hour to an hour and a half.

I also went tonight. At 5:45 there was a :15 wait, busy busy busy. All I can do is confirm what others are saying. Food was very good. Staff was flustered, very obvious most of them haven't dealt with this level of volume before, and our waiter hadn't worked around Mexican food before so had trouble with some of the names. I had NEVER seen Baja Billy's nearly as busy. I am happy they are there, but as Adam suggests, go during off peak if you can. 32oz tap Summit for $5.75 + tax is not too shabby either.

We went there around 6:30, and waited for about 20 mins or so. The place indeed was totally packed when we first arrived. Adam, surprised the wait was so long when you went at 7:30 pm, I saw some empty tables nearby around that time, even at 8 pm. We left at 8:30 pm, and it seemed to have emptied out some. But the slow service may have had something to do with the long waits for tables. It took like an hour for our food. But, since we had chips & salsa to tide us over and a bottomless pitcher of Margaritas, we were happy.

I ate at the bar, and there were empty tables the entire time I was there, so I have no idea what the three host(es)s were talking about with the hour to hour and a half wait.

Adam, the server told us at one point the kitchen was totally backed up, that's probably why they were not filling all the tables. First-week snafu, I'm sure they'll work it out.

I met one of the cooks last night, Aldo. He said it was the fastest he's ever had to cook since becoming a cook.

Adam, glad I ordered the fish tacos then, they're pretty simple. I highly recommend them, BTW.

Ditto on the tastiness of the fish tacos! I went there with some friends this evening, and even though the place was packed, our food came pretty quickly and our server was great. Looks like they're getting the kinks worked out as the weeks go by...

I think the service is still hit or miss, was there last week and the server sucked, even worse than when it was super busy. They've seemed to have hired a lot of newby talent for wait staff, plenty of whom are confused by the Spanish on the menu, food is still good though.

Went there Friday for lunch, had chicken fajitas -- YUM -- in fact, made a chicken fajitas omelette with the leftovers the next morning. Sat. went there again for lunch -- fish tacos. My comrades at both lunches enjoyed their meals as much as I did. I had the same server both days, a young Latina who was capable and friendly. I think it depends on who you get as server, I know a guy who used to be a server at Chester Creek Cafe and is now serving at ML and he is one of the best servers in this city.

The food is fantastic and more authentic than any other place around here, and I have pretty high standards, having grown up in a town with a lot of Latinos, who sometimes paid my father for services rendered with enough homemade Mexican food to feed our large family.

I went there on Sunday, the server we had was great. The food was good too.

Has anyone else noticed that Lindo has the worst stale chips of all time? It amazes me every time I try to eat there, as the beer specials are incredible, that the stale chips endeavor to persevere? Chips are one of those things I think says a lot about a Mexican restaurant. How's that new place up by the Mall?
