Danimal,
I really want to give props to you for saying your piece, getting in some faces a bit, and then bringing it around to being part of the community. This is one of the things that makes the Duluth scene special, communitas. Make sure to post where you'll be doing your thing during HG on PDD, you'll get some people there. Can you do electronica on the trolley? That'd be cool.
Great work by the committee - Shana, Adam, and Paul in particular. I made the schedule for Homegrown 8 and 9, it's a tough job. Let's just say, labor negotiations for the city is nothing compared to the fallout from the bruised ego of a lead singer asked to play a venue that doesn't meet his expectations.
I especially appreciate TBT and RGC at the NorShor early in the night. Get the people out at 7pm and then spend the rest of the night searching for your new favorite band. I think the committee also did a great job of spreading things out through the entire week.
It's going to be a great time! I've already blocked out my early mornings - no meetings before 10am on Homegrown week!
Best Homegrown schedule ever! Glad the poetry showcase is being repeated, it was unexpectedly fabulous last year -- esp. Devin McKinnon and Patrick McKinnon bookending the evening. Glad to see that there'll be some shows at Chester Creek Cafe's cozy little wine bar too.
This is a great lineup, and I couldn't be more excited as my 21st birthday falls in the beginning of this amazing week. Does anyone know when tickets will go on sale and price info?
It'll be another week or so before tickets are available, but you can get them at the Electric Fetus once they are.
The weeklong pass is $25. Single-day tickets are $15 on the weekend and $5 on weekdays.
The Homegrown Music Festival Field Guide, a free 60-page program for the festival, will be slowly making its way to venues next weekend.
Roast of Rick Boo tickets will be on sale in another week or so at Pizza Lucé. The dinner roast requires a weeklong wristband AND a $10 ticket. Limited seating available.
Carla, I am so glad CCC is part of Homegrown this year. . . that's fewer evenings where I have to risk a DUI driving home from downtown. . . seriously, I love going to performances in the wine bar, it's so cozy. And the deck is a fabulous place to perform too.
Hee Haw! I see that Matt Ray and Those Damn Horses are playing this year (Sat - 11 - Fitgers Brewhouse). I can't wait!! They are the one band I really want to catch this year. I also want to see the Iron Range Outlaw Brigade, but dammit, they are at the same time. What to do, what to do?
Rick Boo used to run the NorShor Theater, so he's a big part of Homegrown's history. A roast is an event in which a group of people make fun of a select person (in this case Rick Boo) and use a lot of vulgar language. This is done because it's a fun thing to do.
Lindquist could probably provide a more complete list of roasters (or Devin if he learned how to internet), but I know it includes: Mark Lindquist, Devin McKinnon, Bryan "Lefty" Johnson, possibly Sarah Heimer, Chad Lyons, possibly Hot Rod, Blaise Tailor, Carolyn Reisberg, special guests TBA and who know what else. Less than 100 tickets left.
