An audition for buskers? Is it Duluth or Disney World? The only vote buskers should have to worry about is the public...and they vote with their dollar. Pre-screened auditioned entertainment isn't busking. If the DPAC is going to audition, they should supply the acts a stipend as well. As far as I'm concerned, if you've got enough of a pair to take it to the street, good on ye. This is sanitized tourist yuck.
We had such a large turnout last year that this year the DPAC decided to limit the number of spots available for the gallery hop.
The artists selected will receive a stipend.
I hope you come out and see what a fun time this 'audition' is. I felt honored to sit there and have Duluth/Superior's finest performers share their art with me at last year's event. I'm certain the rest of the DPAC feels the same.
Thank you for your comment and please ... stop by to the 'audition' ... It is FREE and fun! Maybe it will even turn that frown upside down.
The DPAC wanted to organize this event to provide an opportunity to performing artists to showcase their talents during the Gallery Hop April 17. This offers performers who don't generally perform on the street a venue to try it out. In the past we have never turned a busker away [and who are we to have that authority]. The audition this Saturday is a fun event that promotes visibility for artists and the Gallery Hop. Last year there was a real positive sense of comradery and support between the artists and patrons.
I will talk with the rest of the DPAC about these comments and questions.
If you have any more concerns, questions, suggestions, or event ideas, please contact [email protected]. Or you can always apply to be on the commission.

I hope everyone will come on down to Teatro Zuccone Saturday at anytime from 11-3.
Who made that assumption?
Selected Gallery Hop buskers will receive a stipend ... and all of the artists will receive warm fuzzys. Now who can put a price tag on that?
Oh I see ... If an artist is not interested in buskering at the Gallery Hop, they don't have to perform at this audition. No arms were twisted in the planning of this event.
As for free - - We've opened the doors to the public for this event because it gives the artist an audience. By asking people to show up to this audition we are in no way trying to disrespct them.
We've sat through these auditions before and marveled at the talent ... wishing more community members could be a part of the fun.
If an artist would prefer to play to a paying audience, I would assume buskering is not for them.
A busking permit allows performances in select locations in Duluth and, besides the Gallery Hop, is good for one year. There are a limited amount of busking permits. Is this correct?
