Duluth-area restaurants serving phở

phoPhở is a Vietnamese soup and there are trendy phở places all over in the Twin Cities. What about Duluth and Superior?

Taste of Saigon?

Thai Krathong?

Vietnamese Lotus Inn?

I believe Lotus Inn serves phở. when I went there I had bún, but I think they are called something westernized on the menu.

Vietnamese Lotus Inn definitely has phở. And it's good.

A hopeless Vietnamese food junkie here....

The phở in town is okay but what is really needed is a place that serves great banh mi - Vietnamese sandwiches. A place (maybe even a food cart) near UMD or UWS or the Lakewalk - with iced Vietnamese coffee in the summer - would be an instant hit. Easy, cheap, tasty food....

Thinking further about the phở I used to get on University Ave in St Paul, we really don't have the variety that you see in the Cities. I used to order a great phở with tomatoes and fresh pineapple ... wow, but if you need a fix, I'd recommend either the Lotus or Saigon.

You can always try Lan Chi's on Belknap in Superior. They have both the wetsernized versions of Chinese food and more authentic Vietnamese food on their menu. The Vietnamese egg rolls are so much better than the traditional ones you find around here.

First Street is bustling!

Downtown Duluth is bustling!

Now if we could just eliminate the blight that is every Ringsred property.

We had Pho last week at Saigon Cafe on first street next to Coney. This is the second time we've ordered it there and it was very good. Their spring rolls were very fresh, served with a nice peanut sauce. The Pho is pricey at 10.50 a bowl but they package your leftovers very well and you can get two meals out of one order easily.

The Vietnamese Lotus Inn has delicious phở. And iced Vietnamese coffee. And they've even made bahn mi sandwiches for me (with sufficient prior notice). To sum up: The Vietnamese Lotus Inn is the perfect restaurant.

@Terry - I totally agree! I had my first and only banh mi in NYC Chinatown. It was delicious. But in addition to the vietnamese iced coffee, we SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY need bubble tea. I crave bubble tea at least once a week, and am always sad I can't get any.

Vietnamese Lotus inn in Gary-New Duluth definitely has Pho. And I second Terry G's request that some entrepreneur start selling banh mi!!! But hey, it might happen, I never thought 15 years ago I'd ever be eating sushi in Duluth.

Lan Chis on Belknap and Hammond Ave in Superior. It's my favorite place for Pho in town. $5.99 for a huge bowl, it's just as good, if not better, than The Lotus in Gary, and I think the Lotus charges $12.99 for their pho, a little pricey. I've also tried talking the owner of Lan Chis, and his son, into making Bahn Mi, an awesome vietnamese sandwich. The owner's son mentioned that they will be expanding their traditional vietnamese menu very soon, I think they've got about 9 authentic vietnamese menu items. If your in the mood for a spring roll in a bowl try letter A the next time you're there.

Lan Chis has phở and is the cheapest in the area and still really good.

YUM, I love banhi mi!!! Matt O, if any Viet Namese place in town starts selling banh mi, I am so there! I was in San Fran 2 weeks ago and had a banh mi for lunch every day. The best place for it is Saigon Deli, it's in Little Saigon near the SF Civic Center. It was so delicious.

There is no good Vietnamese food in Duluth. Someone needs to step up and open a good pho stand.

A heads up that you won't find phở on the menu the server brings at Lan-chi's. It's listed on a whiteboard under "Today's Specials." Apparently, it's always one of today's specials.

Phở (Vietnamese Rice Noodle Soup)
Rare beef, meatball, rice noodle
$5.99

You can google bubble tea and there are two suppliers who sell the kit so you can make them at home. One supplier is located in Vancover and the other one in Hawaii.
I feel for all the bubble tea fans living in Duluth. It's a matter of time when a bubble tea place opens up. Patience...

There's bubble tea on the menu at the new Japanese place, Osaka, at Burning Tree Mall.
