I love you SH! Wish it was still a kid friendly event though - the boy has a diorama half done that he was going to enter last year, the year of no rama.

Yes! Thank you Ms. Heimer!

I'd also like to second Purple's comment about keeping it all ages-- we took our 15 year old two years ago, and it was a mind broadening experience for him. (And us.)

So why is it 21+? If it's alcohol, just don't serve it that night. If it's due to a lot of porn dioramas, well, I don't know what to think about that...

I have thought about doing a kids time, maybe at the beginning of the event. I'll try to work something out! It is 21+ because there will be alcohol. Maybe not important to everyone but important to the success of almost any Duluth gathering. It's a tough situation to be in when you are the one responsible for keeping everyone happy. I'll see what we can work out....

Is there going to be music and such again this year? It was awesome to have Dance Band there a couple years ago.

Maybe there could be a family-friendly viewing on Sunday.

What time does it start?

I 2nd (or 4th) a kid's category with judging (by kids?) on Sunday.

Just threw away my diarama from last time. I'm all for the alcohol.

It wasn't 21+ at Emerson. Tell Sacred Heart to suck it up and have their booze schleppers ID.

This should be an all ages event.

On second thought, I feel guilty for requesting an additional event for kids. If it were that important to me, I would organize a "diorama-rama junior" myself. Since I'm not willing to do that, I'm not entitled to bitch.

probably early evening. 7/8?

The reason it wasn't 21+ at Emerson is because it was totally illegal. I'm just trying to do this thing legally because it is me who would be held responsible. There were about six cops there last time that I had to deal with and it spooked me. You are right...it could work out to have wristbands or whatnot. I would probably have to hire a cop then...but perhaps it would be worth it.

I'm planning on bringing my seven-year-old daughter. I will, however, NOT allow her to consume alcohol, wristband or not! If she sees a diorama that is "inappropriate," or confusing we'll cross that bridge. If she sees people drinking and making merriment- well, that's nothing new. Just because it's 21+ doesn't mean "NO KIDS!" Right?

Heimer

Just to clear things up for everyone.......The 21+ thing does not mean "NO KIDS ALLOWED" I think it will be fine to bring your kids along with you. Usually people have brought their kids in the early part of the evening and it was a non issue. When I wrote that it was 21+ I didn't mean "NO KIDS". I just don't want underage people there trying to get drunk. The whole purpose of the post was to let people know about the event and give them ample time to make something for it. It has turned into something else. It's also the first time I've had it at SH so just need to figure out the best way to go about things. I'm probably going to stop reading these comments so please contact me via email if you have anything to say! Thanks

Whether Heimer reads this or not, I truly appreciate her hard work to make this awesome event happen. Organizing anything is hard, and something that has been as well received as the Dioramarama only gets harder. I'm sure she knows this, but it is impossible to meet everyone's needs, so keep doing it as you are. Oh, and thanks for another great Duluth attribute.
