Yelp!

I was looking through the Duluth reviews on yelp.com and things are looking sparse and outdated. There are precious few reviews from Duluthians, it’s mostly just weekend tourists. I know you all have strong opinions on the M&H, your dentist, the parking situation in Canal… so go post some reviews, add businesses you don’t see, and let’s make Duluth sound good! Or bad, whichever you prefer.

Hold on, we Duluthians just got the internet a few months ago.

I smell affiliate kickbacks. Take it somewhere else.

Actually, no, but I am aware now that it sounds a little like product placement. I'm a Duluthian, been silently reading PDD for years, and just found it unfortunate that tourists review the same 10 restaurants and hotels over and over. There's more to the city.

I was looking for a place to hang out in mnpls from 1-4 AM tomorrow morning, motored over to Duluth, and noticed the same thing. While peer review sites might not be all that useful to locals well connected to word of mouth, it'd be nice to see Duluth have a bigger (and more indigenous) footprint in that world.

A lot of places in Duluth are great *because* the tourists don't know about them.

Yep, once the tourists find the swimming holes, new campsites are cleared and trees cut. Pretty soon it isn't even fun to go there anymore.

Some of you know where I mean. Lots of fresh living trees cut down when firewood is all around sitting on the ground.

We could tell them about the Burrito Union and Baja Billy's in an attempt to steer them away from the good restaurants.

When I worked downtown the most common request was for directions to the Saratoga (which I gave). And anyone with a bit of snobbery got circuitous directions to the Kozy Bar.

My wife has family in Minnesota and we will be visiting Duluth for a few days in Spring. I am not sure how to feel about this blog post. After reading this article http://www.hoteltattler.com/content/visiting-duluth-minnesota-slice-heaven-lake-superior
I couldnt wait to go, but after reading this article I am having second thoughts. Do you people from Duluth not want tourism dollars?

If you were from here, you'd get the sarcastic humor.

hmm. yelp! (you kick my dog!) heh heh

Recently someone from another blog went on and on about yelp. He's a new transplant to mpls from san fran or diego or some such cali place and swore that yelp is all the rage on the west coast and places 'in the know'.
Well ye-ha for them.

meh.

Most of it was in review of food - and well, there's chowhound and urban spoon for that.

Besides, there are plenty of peer-review sites and blogs, as well as rags and mags, both in print or online, loaded with all the dirt and dirty lil secrets, if someone really wants to know more.

Google is your friend.
Well, not Duluth's fiber friend, but yeah.
It'll still lead you here.
