I'm not squeamish about doing topical humor, but I found this kind of sad and upsetting, actually. I see where they were going with it, but it just didn't do it for me. Kudos to the Onion, though, for pushing the envelope.
I didn't really notice how un-P.C. it was until I watched it again. I didn't get that the woman was speaking Spanish. I thought it was just gibberish or latin or something.
I still think it is funny and posted because it was a Duluth MN boy.
Also, they never say alien, which is great.
She's saying stuff like: "My family will be missing me." "I need to find my family" and then the prayer part at the end should be obvious.
Agreed that it is un-PC, but funny. My kids watched it three times and thought it was hilarious.
It seems to me they weren't making fun of (I can only assume illegal alien) Mexicans, but the insipid, ignorant white folk anchors/hosts that dominate morning TV infotainment programming: the white folks come off as the idiots, not the "E.T."
Yes, it's anti- racist satire. What's un-PC about that? Just a play on the terrible word " aliens" which people apply to immigrants.Of course humor is a very subjective thing. This one just didn't tickle my funny-bone. To each his/her own.
"I didn't get that the woman was speaking Spanish. I thought it was just gibberish or latin or something." You should be a newscaster for the Onion!! Unless you weren't kidding. Then you should go to diversity training.
