Explosives in a car behind the Twins Bar?

Duluth Police have three city blocks on lock down and employees at SMDC have been asked to stay inside and cannot go home. I heard there was explosives found in a car behind the Twins Bar. Anyone know what’s going?

[Update] Some dumb ass was “transporting” some dynamite in his car for a “friend” and then got cold feet. He then pulled over and called the police.

oooh! let's start a rumor quick before the truth is revealed...

I heard it was a teaparty terrorist who's mother went before an Obama-appointed death panel this morning. If she got the thumbs-up, all's good. If she got the thumbs-down, well, goodbye parking ramp!!

DNT has nothing (typical).

TV stations have a little:

Yes! The DNT finally updated their site with the famous red, and I quote, "Breaking News" banner: "Explosives team removes material from car behind Duluth bar"

Whew! Thanks for that, DNT. I'm glad you told me, in case I wanted to walk down to the co-op...three hours ago.

"Wick said he was told that the explosive was used as a 'dynamite booster' for blasting during mining operations and had been in the man's possession for about 10 years."

10 year-old explosives = bad.

i knew a nice older hippie lady from Chicago whose dad had been in the OSS during WWII, and had a couple of old explosive contraptions in his possession when he passed away.

The whole family knew about them because he had a habit of bringing them out at family gatherings for the kids to look at while he told them stories.

I can't remember whose responsibility it was to inform the authorities and have them come pick them up after he'd died, but she did say that it was a huge to-do, as they first had the cops out, then they called the bomb squad...all the while the family present had to basically play dumb while being questioned about them.

Vicarious -- when I checked the DNT site after I saw this article for the first time, there was a red-bannered news alert up...for Wednesday's snow forecast.

A few years back I talked to a maintenance man down at the train depot museum, he said back when they where cleaning up the faux store displays they found some very old crystallized nitroglycerin in the drug store store-front, the place had to be evacuated till the bomb squad could take care of it.

You wouldn't want to go transporting explosives feeling all twitchy, so stopping for a couple of beers is probably a super idea.
