Rally and Ride for Climate Protection Oct 24

Join Mayor Don Ness, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer and hundreds of others in Duluth on October 24 as we celebrate pedal power and take action against global warming.

Rally and Ride (or Walk) for Climate Protection

Saturday, October 24 / International Day of Climate Action

3:00pm: Gather on Harbor Dr behind the DECC for a mini-rally and big group bike ride through Canal Park – costumes and noisemakers encouraged. No bike? There will also be a pedestrian march, complete with brass band.

4:00pm: Climate teach-in (details TBA).

In December, world leaders will meet in Copenhagen to craft a new global treaty to cut greenhouse gas emissions. While many climate scientists are calling for immediate action to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million or less (we’re now at about 385ppm), the treaty currently on the table doesn’t pass that test.

On October 24, people around the world will rally for a treaty that meets the climate crisis. 1800 actions (and counting) are being planned in 141 countries under the 350 banner.

The Duluth rally will wrap up a week of climate action on Twin Ports campuses, including local food dinners, teach-ins and a rolling 350-second student walkout. For more info or to get your school involved, contact Dylan Kesti with CSS Earth Action at 218-591-4172.

You can help make this event a success:

1. Organize your church, school or co-workers. Ride together and make your own banners or even wear matching outfits.

2. Ride to the rally with others – plug into a feeder route from CSS, UMD, or the Bike Cave, or start your own. Just be sure to get to the DECC by 3 and keep it safe and legal. Route details will be posted on 350twinports.wordpress.com.

3. Make a recycled banner highlighting the 350.org website, and post it in the window of your place of business, home or school. The site has great information about the climate crisis, and includes a link to our local action.

4. Do something creative the week before the rally. Flash 350-second dance mobs, 350 cookie giveaways… anything to highlight the 350 message and get people out on the 24th.

Let the Twin Ports 350 organizing committee know what you have planned so we can include it in press releases and whatnot. Contact us at [email protected] or 218-340-4356.
