I just watched the premier of Drew Barrymore's new movie, "Whip It" on Friday. I like this 'hometown' stuff better.

Drew Barrymore needs to use her millions to fund the construction of real roller arenas with the tilted wooden floors like they had in the old days.

There are a few banked-track leagues, but a banked track is, as you suggest, a big investment. I'm inclined to think that flat track is more democratic--there are certainly a lot more flat track leagues out there, and I'd hate to see more barriers to entry.

@hbh1, Flat Track Derby is actually more physical than banked track, as skaters use their own momentum to block and skate through the pack. It's much more affordable for leagues to get into the sport. More information on Women's Flat Track Derby Association at www.wftda.com
and www.harborcityrollerdames.com

From the WFTDA website: "The governing philosophy of the WFTDA is "by the skaters, for the skaters." Female skaters are primary owners, managers, and/or operators of each member league and of the association."

This ain't your summer softball league, ladies! This is the fastest growing women's sport in America, with leagues all over the world. Plus it's just freaking awesome. Come to a bout or check out practice, once you go Derby you'll never be the same.
