Senator Kennedy's death is no surprise, but it is still sad.

Certainly had some issues early in his life, but gotta give him props, he positively influenced a lot of people's lives since then and it'll be a long time before we see another like him.

Ted Kennedy wasn't perfect, and he certainly did seem drawn toward excess and trouble at various times in his life, but on the whole I'd say he left behind more good in the world than bad.

It's hard to wrap my head around how many major political milestones he had a hand in: the Civil Rights Bill of '64, the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Voting Rights Act Extension (lowering the voting age to 18), OSHA, CHIP, HIPAA, peace negotiations in Northern Ireland, supporting Meals on Wheels, the Family Opportunity Act of 2006, helping refugees from Vietnam/Ethiopia/Iraq/etc., human rights work in Chile, campaigning against apartheid in South Africa...

When I think about Kennedy's legacy, all I need to remember is that Bork is still alive.
