National Night Out

National Night Out (NNO) is this coming Tuesday, August 4th. On that night people will meet their neighbors in communities and neighborhoods around the United States (except for Texas where they have to be different). So these events are mainly designed to be fun and to celebrate life, along the way people will get better connected and hopefully a little more organized as parents, citizens and neighbors against crime, isolation, drug abuse and all of those other buzz killers.

*I am working on the event for Central Hillside which takes place from 5-8 pm at the Central Hillside Community Center on 4th St at Lake Avenue. There will be some firetrucks for kids to explore, police will be on hand to shake hands and answer questions, there will be some art and craft activities, maybe face painting and there will also be food. This event is being billed as a pot luck and people are encouraged to bring a dish to share. But just in case, we are getting together some other food to grill and share, so we’re not just limited to the pot luck items.

There wasn’t a lot readily viewable or findable online today as I post this, but here are some other NNO events in Duluth that I did find (or hear about):

*ALL CHUM Street Fest 1st Ave W between 1st and 2nd St from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Music and fellowship with food provided by CHUM member congregations.

*Lester Park United Methodist Church, 54th Ave. E. & Superior St. has a BBQ and music starting at 5:30 pm

*National Night Out Corn Feed – Salem Covenant Church – 339 N 59th Ave W, Duluth, MN – 6 pm
Salem Covenant Church will host a Corn Feed with hotdogs, fun activities for the kids, a dunk tank & a great time of neighborhood fellowship.

*Sport Court Block Watch at the Hillside “sport court” between 7th and 8th street at 3rd ave E. This is one that I know is happening, but don’t know all the details yet.

Please feel free to share about what is happening in your neighborhood for NNO, even if it is a very small affair.
