Not even one local band this year? Hello, Charlie Parr should be given a sweet spot to play.

Paul Mayasich is from Eveleth, which is pretty local.

i am looking forward to cyril neville, los lobos, debbie davies and coco montoya. deb callahan is also very good and has played locally. also, the otis taylor band will be fantastic or go over like a lead balloon.
can't stand the following - brandon scott sellner, daniel slick ballinger, tommy castro, lamont and big walter.

I didn't know Los Lobos was playing til just now. I'll admit I'm not a blues fan. I'd say Los Lobos is the most appealing act for me since several years ago when Blues Traveler did a Sunday night spot and I actually went down. My step-son loved their song "Hook." The sound was disappointing, there, that day though and I don't think I've been to blues fest since. I'm assuming some of the PA problems have been fixed by the recent landscaping and stage work in the park.

Best Los Lobos song (to me) is "Will The Wolf Survive?" Most popular Los Lobos song? Probably their cover of "La Bamba" from the bio-pic of Richie Valens starring Lou Diamond Phillips (1987?). Valens played one of his last shows in Duluth at the Historic Armory in 1959. I bet they play it in Duluth. And wish I could be there for it. A little DJ nerdery: Singles in the 50s and 60s were usually 2 minutes or less, due to some conspiracy way beyond the scope of this post. But by the 80s top - 40 radio had settled on more like 4 minutes as a uniform length. Los Lobos released 2 versions of "La Bamba" one true to the original, one longer one. In the full length version of Los Lobos' "La Bamba" there is a 60 second or so outtro that showcases some brilliant latin/mariachi style guitar work that hearkens back to the song's Mexican folk roots. So I actually like that version better than Richie Valens for that reason.

Ok ... enough meandering for now. Hope everyone has a great time!

This city used to have way too many blues bands. What happened to Blues Debris, Blues Allegations, Port Authority, The Delta Resonators, etc? Are Jim Hall and Charlie Parr the only ones left in town?

I'm pleasantly surprised at the number of acts I'm interested to see this year. I love the Holmes Brothers, they're very soulful and in addition to their originals they've recorded some unexpected covers like Gillian Welch's "Everything is Free." Also interested to see Otis Taylor, Corey Harris, Cyril Neville, Los Lobos, Charlie Musselwhite, and Alison Scott.

At least one of the members of the Delta Resonators now plays with Virgil Caine, who plays around Duluth. They are not playing at the Blues Fest AFAIK. Charlie Musselwhite will be an excellent show, but I think for the most part, we're a little bluesed-out.

I like the Friday lineup which would make the 2nd day I've gone in the 8 years I've been here. Corey Harris who plays that day was the reason I went last time.

I loved Port Authority. That was the first time I snuck into the Norshor through the backdoor. What a huge band!

As for bluesfest, meh.

Without Mick Sterling and the Studd Brothers it will never be the same period! Would like to see Port Authority for sure. Does anybody know where Dave "Honeyboy" Edwards is at this year? Haven't seen him in quite a few years now. He is good.

you can't have blues festival without "JJ grey & Mofro" or "The root city band"
